Will My Fiance Be Deported if He Tries to Get a Green Card

My fiance came to the United States in 1980 from Cuba and was paroled. He got a Social Security number and stuff, but didn't apply for a Green Card before his I-94 had expired. After all these years, he wants to have a Green Card and even still has his old I-94 , but I'm afraid that if he submits the application they will come after him or something. What are the chances of this happening? He said someone called immigration on him before several years ago but they didn't do anything.
