How to End a Relationship With a Parent

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Kentucky

First question: I'm 26, can I still remove any parental rights or do anything to sever the legal relationship to my mother at this point?


Second question: Is there anything I can do to force my mother to take down photos of my son and I from her facebook page that she does not have permission to use?


Third question: This relates to the second question but what is the law in Kentucky about people posting pictures of children under the age of 13 without parental consent? Can someone explain it to me?

First question: You are 26 and legally an adult. Unless she has been made your legal guardian due to some disability, your mom no longer has any "parental rights." That does not change the fact she is your mom but you don't have to listen to her. The only legal relationship, absent some kind of guardianship, is that she is biologically your mom. That's it.

Second question: You could complain to Facebook. Depending on what you mean by "does not have permission to use," they may or may not do anything.

Third question: Unless the pictures are of an obscene/indecent nature, there is no law against posting them. If they were not taken by her, you could complain to Facebook if you are the copyright holder.


If your relationship is this acrimonious, you just need to sever contact. Don't be surprised if she tries to get visitation though since it sounds like she is still wanting a relationship. Depending on the full facts, a court may award it.
