Default Interest on Support Arrears is As Much as the Arrears Themselves

My question involves child support in the State of: Texas My husband paid his back child support last year. He had gotten behind about a year and a half, after being unemployed with the court saying he still had to pay.... that in spite of his son being with us more than 50% of the time! He paid it all back last year, but now the state is charging an equal amount of interest??? Its absurd. Yet we have no money to get an attorney' What are our options? How can I help resolve it since he works full time, and I work part time?

Default Re: Support Paid.texas Charging Equal Amount of Interest

There's nothing to resolve. Texas is allowed to charge interest on past-due support.

If they're choosing to take the same payment and credit it towards the owed interest, that's a valid option for them.

On the bright side, it will be paid off MUCH faster than if he was paying the simple 6% (that's the Texas rate).
