I know that everything is speculation at this point, and plenty of blathering on my part, it's just that this job (and others like it) require a large move within the next month and a half and not knowing is difficult to swallow...and well quite frankly I don't want to call human resources and ask: "hey, so...do I need government clearance b/c that may be a problem."

A crystal ball or time machine would be nice (hah)
You say this is a large firm... Would the initials BAH or DT be relevant to this consulting firm by any chance? If, as you say, this is a large consulting firm, please DO call HR and ask them who you can speak with regarding the security clearance process. If you ask questions up front and are turned away as a result, that isn't any worse truly than moving and being turned away two months into the job. The large firms put lots of people through the clearance process and actually (if you are honest) may be able to gauge how comfortable they are with moving your forward in the process. Their comfort level is a good gauge for your comfort level.

    Good luck!

How specific do you think I should be when talking to HR? Does it have to be HR or should I contact the recruiter who I've been speaking with?
