My question involves defamation in the state of: Georgia
I had been engaged for the past 6-1/2 years and my now ex-fiance left me 3 weeks before our wedding for a sheriff deputy that she works with a county jail. She tried to keep this under wraps because of embarrassment as she started sleeping at his house the night we broke up. Once people started to find out she started to tell people that the only reason she was staying with him was because I was abusing her which is a total lie. She says she's thinking of getting a TPO but I know she won't because she has absolutely no way of proving that her claims are true. I know this is slander and the fact that she works at a county jail isn't making me feel any better. I was getting ready to write a letter to the chief commander of the jail informing him of the actions of one of his deputies and that it may go agains their code of conduct. My question is, do I send the letter or not. I don't want to go the whole lawyer route and I want to drop it but this rumor is floating out there and I feel if I don't do anything to protect myself from some suit later on I'm gonna just set myself up for failure. I just want to send the letter and leave it at that and move on. Yay or nay?
