Good Moral Character and Immigration

Hello, I need a clarification on GMC rules on Immigration issue, Ive been here for more than 6 yrs now, and I,ve been cited for shoplifting under $50 in TX, 1st offense, no other records at all. My question is, is my offense falls under the GMC rules of 5 years? I am planning to apply for naturalization after we were done with the criminal case, because some of the immigration lawyer told me that I am going to wait again for 5 more yrs before I apply for naturalization, is this true? Because my offense does not fall on the 5 yrs after I was lawfully admitted, i was so confused about it, any help please, thanks ang more power.

You believe that once you're in the U.S. for five years without being arrested, it's a free-for-all and subsequent crimes won't affect naturalization? When looking at good moral character, the issue is your behavior over the five years prior to your application.

I,m sorry I still dont get it Mr. Knowitall, you mean that i can,t apply anytime this year after my citation? What should I do now? but if ever it will not work out, my application I mean, can I still go to visit my home country and if ever, what would be the consequences on coming back. When you file an application for naturalization, the USCIS has the authority to ask about or investigate your activities during your entire life.
