Question High Beams and Speed to Prevent Flying Debris

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Georgia

I was driving on the HWY and something hit my car and windshield I turned on my highbeams and debris was flying everywhere the car next to me came in my lane I speed up merging into the carpool lane ( there was another passenger in the vehicle) A few seconds later a officer pulls me over and states I had my highbeams on and was speeding. I attempted to explain and I think he said that was a problem about the highbeams were on even though I was preventing a collison because I could not see what was hitting the car (debris) I have to go back to Atlanta GA to fight this ticket. What are the laws regarding the debris on their HWy becuase not one minute after I received the ticket the truck in fron tof me had something fly off and hit my windshield speed off the hwy way and I almost had another accident. The HWY was so dark I could not see and there were no cars coming in my direction as it is a divided highway with a devider

Default Re: High Beams and Speed to Prevent Flying Debris

If you are talking about debris falling off of another vehicle, you would typically want to back away from the vehicle. Once you pass the vehicle there would be no need to continue speeding.

If you are talking about the road having so much debris that it's "flying everywhere" as you drive over it, the proper approach would be to slow down because the road conditions are unsafe. Driving over the debris at a faster speed will only worsen the problem of its "flying everywhere".

I'm not seeing how the road conditions would necessitate speeding.

When you turned on your high beams, what did you learn in relation to the debris?
