Default Re: Can I Charge a Rent from My Child Who Receives Social Security Benefits

Do you mean that part of my child's SS benefit payments can be allocated as fair rental value of the home on paper (representative payee report)?
NO. You may not charge your dependent minor child rent. You cannot allocate "fair market rental value" as part of his support - in fact, you cannot designate ANY of his money as going toward housing, because you don't have a house payment.

You may not do what you propose to do. It is FRAUD, and is a great way to lose your child's benefits for him.

Thank you all for the advice. According to the SSA website, "Save any money left after meeting the beneficiary’s current needs in an interest bearing account or savings bonds for the beneficiary's future needs; "

I wonder whether the state's College Savings Plan or an education IRA meet the SSA requirement.

    No, they do not.

Once the child reaches the age of 18, that money will need to be sent back to the SSA, and the SSA will give it to the beneficiary.

I explained this already, I didn't think it was that hard to grasp. You don't get to decide what happens with kiddo's saved benefits once he reaches 18.
