Default Chapter 7 Student Loan Cosigner

My question involves bankruptcy in the state of: Illinois

    Hi,

I will be filing for bankruptcy soon, mainly to get rid of credit card debt. I currently have several government and private student loans in deferment. Two of the private loans have a cosigner. I know that the student loans will not be discharged, nor do I want them to be discharged. If all my debt is discharged in bankruptcy, minus the student loans, with the private banks go after the cosigners since the student loans will be considered to be in default? What will happen to the student loan cosigners, if anything?

    Thanks

If you are delinquent on your student loans, the creditors can go after the cosigners. They may have to catch up on your delinquent payments or pay your debt.

The status of the loans is: in-school deferment until June 2013. So, in that case, the banks wouldn't go after the cosigners (even though in the promissory note it says that filing for bankruptcy is considered a default)? Am I correct?

    Thanks
