The Real Meaning

.....of a holiday, like any other commercialized holiday, sometimes gets rather muddled. Or in some cases lost altogther. Like Memorial Day for example: Hyundai wants to sell me a car, Rothman wants to sell me an awesome bedroom suite, any given major retailer wants to give me some serious discounts on virtually every flippin thing in the flippin store, and on and on and on and on........

I really hate to be the reality checker for all theses turds, BUT!, Memorial Day is the most solemn of ANY DAY OF THE YEAR!!! And should be treated as such.

The real meaning of the day is to memorialize those who served these United States and made the ultimate sacrifice while performing that service. In the last week there has been only one public acknowledgement of this that I have heard. It was the other night on the way home that I was listening to a Cardinals ball game on the radio and was almost taken aback by one of the announcers during a pause in the game......he very eloquently put into words of what Memorial Day stands for and how the day should be treated.

Memorial Day is the day that we should, or let me rephrase, WE MUST, reverently honor the memory of those that have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our ability to exist in the warm glow of freedom and democracy.

I ask of those that happen across this thread; take a moment, or, like me, take all day tomorrow to acknowledge the real premise of what Memorial Day is all about.

One more thing! It you can read this, thank a teacher! If you're reading this in English, thank a soldier!

Y'all are welcome to come to the house and assist me in lowering my flag to half-staff at dawn tomorrow morn. I ain't serving y'all breakfast though!!!
