Pareents Want to End Guardianship of Children After Ten Years

My question involves guardianship in the State of: California
I've had my boys since they were 8 months old. They are now 11 years old. I am a single dad -- 52.
They have been in the same neighborhood for the last 7 years. We have a good life together. Boys do good in school ... We are two blocks away and live in a communty of 16k. I have been a good guardian. We love each other and have been a family for their entire life.
Dad got out of prison 2-1/2 years ago with $600,000.00 and started controlling everything.
He relapsed on heroin a few months back and is now on methadone. He favors one over the other and spanks only him.
Mom has been with the boys for a total of 40 hours over the last ten years. She believes that I "took" them from her. She published a poem on the internet about me being tortured and dismembered. Her last words to me a few weeks back. . . "I don't care where the boys end up, as long as it isn't with you" ......... she is very bitter. She just recently got off meth. She used meth for about ten years. Has section 8 and collects from the goverment.
Dad is nearing broke and wants kids back.
Mom just hates me and wants kids back.
They do not live together. They haven't had contact with each other for 10 years. They do not like each other. They are showing a unified front for their their own personal agendas.
He was sent to prison for beating her over a period of a day with the boys in the back seat.
Mom reported the boys were being abused because she hated me 4 years ago The report did not look good on the mother.
The boys have been raised with love and enthusiasm.
I cannot afford an attorney. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Start by telling us whether and when you were appointed by a court to serve as guardian, and follow that up by telling us what has been happening in court over the past 30 months.
