    Default "Unfit" Living Arrangements

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: NY

More out of curiosity than anything, what actually constitutes an "unfit" living arrangement? I know it takes VERY little to be considered a suitable parent in the courts eyes, so what does the court actually determine as unfit? Or is it a grey area?

    Thanks

Is kiddo living in a meth lab? PROBABLY unfit. No heat, electricity, or running water? PROBABLY unfit. Only probably, though. It's handled on a case by case basis, and even in the two hypotheticals mentioned, if kiddo is clean, well-fed, and not stewing in his own filth? Complaints of "unfit" don't have very strong legs.

Thank you for your responses, it was a topic I was curious about. In my opinion though, that's insane. But I'm sure it would be very hard to have a definite set of rules for parents to abide by..
