How to Search Archives for Original Deed

My question involves real estate located in the State of California: My brother and I inherited 1,000 acres of mineral rights on forest service land. These mineral rights are recorded with the First American Title Company and they will not go through their archives to copy an original deed. They quoted a ridiculous fee to discourage me. I need to find out if these mineral rights are outstanding mineral rights or reserved mineral rights. Also how do I find the deed. Also these mineral rights are recorded with the title company in my name and my brothers'.

Probably time to find someone to do it for a less ridiculous fee.

It's not a do-it-yourself project. Please try to understand that. If a thousand acres of mineral rights aren't worth it to you, just move on.
