Reckless Driving in Dinwiddie County

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Virginia

I am 21 years old and a resident of Virginia. I was driving 84/70, and am charged for reckless driving. My driving record of 5 years has been flawless thus far, and this will be my first violation.

I plan to show up to court in person. The questions I have are:

1) Should I hire a lawyer? I am a college student struggling to make ends meet.

2) If I choose to defend myself, what fines/insurance charges should I expect?

3) If I hire a lawyer, ''? How much is it to hire a lawyer?

1. Nobody is going to tell you ont to hire a lawyer

2. It depends on the facts. A common reduction is to "improper driving", which carries a potential fine of up to $500. You can discuss insurance rates with your insurance agent.

3. Call some law offices and ask their fees.

The GDC's are all over the place as to how they will allow you to reduce/defer the CRIMINAL reckless charge. Your best bet is to at least talk to a lawyer in Dinwiddie who is familiar with the court. When my wife got her reckless charge it cost about $400 for the lawyer (who arranged the dismissal and made the court appearance).
