Angry Doctor Bill Sent After Eight Months

Last year in the month of October 2011 i visited the doctor for minor earache and before seeing him i spoke with him how much he will charge me since i don't have any insurance ? He said he will charge me $ 60 since i don't have insurance and there won't be any other charges. He just prescribed me ear drops i made the payment at the reception and took the receipt stating that there won't be any balance left since i made the full payment. Now surprisingly after 8 months he send me a bill of $ 268 with credit of $ 60 and it seems now he is overcharging me saying that "LEVEL 3 SERVICE WAS PROVIDED" and i should pay this due amount immediately while the receipt which i have says "BALANCE DUE = 0", "INSURANCE BALANCE = 0", "PATIENT BALANCE=0" everything was paid and i left the office with this receipt. Luckily i am still holding this receipt and now he send me this surprise bill........i want experts to advise me wht should i do in this case ?

You either owe the money or you don't. If one bills says you owe nothing and another bill says you owe something, with no other services at issue, one or the other is incorrect - but a billing error doesn't make a debt go away. If you agreed to get a specific service for $60, but agreed to and received additional services during treatment, you would still owe for the additional services.

We can't investigate this for you - you'll need to try to figure out what happened, most likely by asking whomever does billing for the medical practice.

I did not receive any additional service inside the doctors room but if there is any arbitration is this receipt going to help me ? I mean there wasn't any additional treatment inside office......wht happens if the doctor report it to debt collection agency ? Who should i speak with and explain what happened ?

You need to call the providers office and explain to the just what you have explained here. Tell them you have a receipt that shows a balance due after you paid the $60 that day. Then see what they say and go from there.
I am not an attorney and any advice is not to be construed as legal advice. You might even want to ignore my advice. Actually, there are plenty of real attorneys that you might want to ignore as well.

There isn't going to be arbitration or mediation over a $200 bill. When the parties have mediation in a civil case, each side pays the mediator half, which is a total of $1200 minimum.

You are making a mountain out of a mole hill. If the total charge was $60.00 and you paid that, case closed. Call the doctors office and advise them that you came in on X date and were charged $60.00 which you paid in full and have the receipt. (p.s. your receipt should show the total charges and the amount you paid, I have never heard of a doctor issuing a receipt that says there "won't be any balance left") and I have been in the health administration field for over 36 years.
Doctors don't usually charge for writing a prescription as it is usually included in the cost of the office visit which includes your examination.

Obviously, their office made an error.
