Default How to Get Away from a Con Man

My question involves criminal law for the state of: California

I am currently in a vulnerable position with a con man. We bought a car together and just sold it and I was able to get the money in my account(didnt want to put it in his), but he wants to split it. I have lost thousands and know he has been defrauding others as well it is just so hard to prove because there is little to no paper trail. Should I split it with him or hold the funds? I am lucky to have gotten most my money back right now if I was to split it. but I need to get away from this guy and keep him away from my family. I need advice and if I should contact an attorney???

If you want to try to have this person prosecuted for fraud, make a police report, present whatever evidence you have, and see what (if anything) the police can make of it.

If you want to split the money and wash your hands of the guy, you have every right to do exactly that.

You're an adult, right? You get to pick your friends.

You should probably contact the local police. If you know, and possibly have some proof, that he has been victimizing others, the police have the best resources to investigate this sort of thing. Appears to me that the best course of action for you at this point is to not have ANY more dealings with this guy before you either report it or consult a lawyer.

Besides, no matter how hard they try to prevent a paper trail there's most likely one or two to follow. Any seasoned investigator worth their salt can possibly do a lot of uncovering.

If you've already suffered loss(es) to this guy then do yourself a favor and do not hand him anything else. Good Luck!

If guns kill people, then I blame my pen/pencil/keyboard for misspelled words!
