Default Employer Revealed Private Information to a New Employee

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Michigan

I recently learned that my employer revealed to a NEW employee that I as well and another manager are homosexual. It is in no way her business to tell other employees about my private life as it does not pertain to their employment. I believe that this is a breach of my privacy that its immoral and irresponsible. I will not stand for such things in a work environment. What I do when I walk out that building is in no way anyones business.

I did not personally tell any employee there about anything in my private life, although I do not go out of my way to hide it (my partner has come and had lunch with me)

I would like to ask: is what she did illegal? or is there any way I can legally pursue this?

is what she did illegal? Yes. While I entirely agree that your sexual orientation is your business and no one else's, sexual orientation is not protected by any privacy laws.

or is there any way I can legally pursue this? No, although you are free to complain to HR/senior management about the incident and lack of appropriateness and professionalism it demonstrates.

I believe that what Beth meant to say was No, what she did is not illegal.

You're sexual orientation is not protected by privacy laws. Plus, it appears to be factual. Although what your employer is not necessarily appropiate, it's not illegal.

Not only factual but in the public domain - apparently everyone at work already knows OP is gay. Even if sexual orientation was protected by privacy laws, OP's own sexual orientation wouldn't be because he's already "published" it.
