My question involves paternity law for the State of: New York
Scenario: It's 1991 and my character is trying to claim paternity on his ex-girlfriend's child even though he is not the father. The mother of the child is a prostitute and drug addict who has no idea who the biological father could be. My character doesn't want the child to end up in foster care and wants to sign the birth certificate. Is that even plausible?
