    Default Misdiagnosed Ectopic Pregnancy

My doctor prescribed me progesterone only birth control pills by calling it into my pharmacy, however I was expecting regular birth control pills (for polycystic ovaries), and so took the pills accordingly. I became pregnant. My doctor told me it was ectopic and prescribed Methotrexate. I followed her instructions. Upon further testing, my hcg levels continued to rise indicating a growing pregnancy. My doctor concluded I had a tumor and scheduled an appointment for me to see a an Oncologist a week later. I asked my doctor if the situation was more urgent, she said no. Within 24 hours I was nearly dying from an ectopic rupture. My blood pressure went down to 29/19. I was rushed to the emergency room where I was admitted for emergency surgery. I needed 2 blood transfusions.

I recovered, lost a fallopian tube, but most painfully I lost my baby. The progesterone only birth control pill slowed down the embryo's migration and thus implanted in my fallopian tube. I don't know what my rights are or if I have any in this case, but I can not let it rest until I know. I am hoping someone will help me. Thanks

You are free to have your records evaluated by a local med-mal attorney but it will not be cheap. Depends what price you put on peace of mind.

Actually it will be cheap - if you take a med mal lawyer your records, they review them without charge. If after an initial review they want the prospective client to pay for a review by a subject matter expert, that's a sign that (a) you're working with a non-specialist firm and/or (b) they don't think your case has sufficient value to justify the cost of litigation.

You are responsible for checking the medications that you take. I'm not privy to the discussion you had with your doctor but it appears that you requested birth control which was provided.

My doctor told me it was ectopic and prescribed Methotrexate
    .

This is a common medication prescribed for ectopic pregnancy.

I asked my doctor if the situation was more urgent, she said no

Although you suffered problems it does not indicate that at the time you spoke with your doctor that you were in a foreseeable health danger.

The progesterone may have caused the ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy can be a side-effect of this type of medication. You're title indicates that the ectopic pregnancy was misdiagnosed, I don't see where it was.

While I understand that you have experienced a traumatic event and suggest that you have a competent medical malpractice law firm review your file I advise that you not get your hopes up. Medical malpractice are extremely difficult to prove and take a long time. Based on the information provided I do not see that you have a viable case.
