Default What Are the Odds of Jail Time

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Tennessee.
My trial date in general sessions court is coming up. My question is- what are the odds of doing jail time on a theft of property/shoplifting case. Keeping in mind this is my first offence, with no prior criminal record. I admit it was wrong and i'm not going to court to try to weasel out of it. The items only added up to $126, I don't see why a judge would justify jail time and tens of thousands in taxpayer money to teach me a lesson. I won't be having a lawyer, and am willing to pay any fines/fees they see fit. Do first time offenders who plead guilty or no-contest get automatic jail time?

You should consult a local lawyer about the possibility that you might be able to get a deferred sentence, or to see if you're eligible for a diversion program (if your county has one).
