Chapter 7 Costs

My question involves bankruptcy in the state of: Georgia

I am in the process of finding an attorney to help file for bankruptcy. I have two questions really. 1) is it even necessary to get an attorney for a chapter 7. I don't own a home, My car is own, I don't own anything particularly valuable. I have just made some poor decisions, mostly on women and now I am 40k dollars in credit card debt and I only make about 25k a year. And 2) do I have to pay money up front to file? Thank You

If you can figure out how to handle your own bankruptcy, you don't need a lawyer. There are some reasonable self-help materials available through the bankruptcy courts website, and all standard forms and schedules are available in electronic form. You have to pay the filing fee when you file.
