SSI and School Loans

I reside in WA.

It is my understanding from this forum that my SSI amount should not be effected by any School Loans but I want to ask:

1. Does this apply even if some of the loan helps pay my living expenses
2. Am I required to notify SSI about these loans
3. Does child support effect SSI amount

The reason I ask is I recently moved and let SSI know my rent amount. I only receive SSI, child support and Stafford Loans. The lady asked me three times if anyone helps me with my rent, if the landlord is related and so forth as she seemed to be questioning how I paid my rent of $699. Do I need to call her back and let her know I receive Stafford Loans?

I do not want to do anything wrong so please advise. I appreciate this forum very much!

Loans are not income, but proving that you have a loan can explain how you pay your expenses so yes you should report the loans.

I hope you have a plan for how you are going to meet your expenses when you are no longer living on borrowed money AND are expected to pay it back. If you are planning on going to work when you are done with school, you should become very familiar with the work incentives for SSI recipients, especially the Plan for Achieving Self Support and 1619b eligibility.
