How to Remove Someone from the Sex Offenders Registry

My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York. In 1985 my son was 19 and the girl was 15 how do we go about removing him from a life time registry. He was incarcerated when the megan law came out and because of this he must register because the law stated if you were in jail or on probation you have to register. HE is incarcerated in texas soon to be released. why hold this against him forever this has not happen again.

He was incarcerated in 1985, for having sex with a 15 year old when he was 19?

And he's STILL incarcerated?

What exactly was he convicted of, and what was his sentence?

because that is what the law requires.

this has not happen again.

great that doesn't mean it won't happen again.

If you want the law changed, petition your legislators to amend the requirements of whom has to register.

I realize that this is a touchy subject but do you know how many young people have engaged in sex with under age girls. most young men 18 or older would have to register because the girls are not of legal age. also these young men should not be in the same catagory as a pedophiles.

They are not in the same category as pedophiles. A pedophile goes after children. A sex offender has an offense that broke a sex law. It could be a rape of an adult even. But if that's the requirement of the state he lives in, that's the requirement.

I understand what you are saying. A friend of my daughter is a registered offender because the girl was 15 and he was 16 and that is the age split in my state. I believe it is not proper he has to register as an offender.

If you do not agree with the laws, lobby your legislator to change them.
