Writing a Novel, Questions About Terrorism Arrests

Hello all,

I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

I'm in the process of writing a novel and I had a few questions related to certain legal proceedings. I hope you guys can help me out.

My first question is, in today's legal/political environment, when someone is arrested on terrorism charges (or suspected aid to terrorist groups, etc.), does he get a lawyer? If so, where does the lawyer come from? Is (s)he government appointed?

I've also got some info for you (and everyone else) regarding terrorism, knowledge of which 99% of the population is ignorant, and would change one's worldview so completely, it'd be like you were living on a flat earth.

When you come to your senses, and make deliberate use of your sense of sight in order to make a study of the images that were shown about the major terrorist attack of the century, and then use your reasoning abilities to question how physically impossible events can be passed off as true to the gullible American public, . . .

I knew it. This is just too much reality for most people to face.
