My question involves criminal records for the state of: North Carolina
I recently ran a background check on myself and came upon charges that a State Trooper gave me in 2009. He gave me citations for:
(I) FICT/ALT TITLE/REG CARD/TAG
(T) DRIVE/ALLOW MV NO REGISTRATION
(T)EXPIRED REGISTRATION CARD/TAG
(I) FAILURE TO WEAR SEAT BELT - DRIVER
I did not have a fictitious tag, as soon as he let me go I found a local police officer and asked him to run my tag...it came up as mine. My vehicle was also registered in GA where I was within the limits before having to have my registration renewed (NC is something like 15 days, in GA it's 30). I was not wearing my seat belt however.
I went to the DA's office and told them these bogus charges needed to be dealt with and the rogue state trooper needed to be reprimanded and now I have on my record, in the same order as the charges above:
VOL DISMISSAL BY DA
DISMISSED BY DA
DISMISSED BY DA
WAIVED
What does a voluntary dismissal mean and how does it interact with background checks? Is a waived charge different from a dismissed charge? Will these charges hold me back from employment/school opportunities?
Thanks for your time and help.
