Talking Collection of Debts Across International Borders

We were covering bankruptcy and talking about certains debts an individual cannot "walk" away from: child support, back taxes, student loans. A student posed the question; "...what if I move to Canada after I graduate and not pay my student loans?" I was perplexed for a moment as I know outside of the U.S. credit is a bit harder to acquire...specifically in Central and South America, but am unsure of Canada. I informed the class that I know that if you commit a criminal act, then you can be extradited as the U.S. and Canada have friendly relations, but what about a civil action like debt repayment. The question is: If one has outstanding student loans and relocates to Canada, can the lenders (Sallie Mae) garnish that person's wages?

Kindest regards for your time in advance

I know the answer, but I would like to know what your research revealed.

Sorry for the confusion, I did not do any research on this particular aspect. I was hoping to gain insight on this topic as it seems like this question has been asked, argued and judged on. What is your spin on it?
