Your license does not get UN-suspended just because you re-enroll in the DUI classes. It would remain suspended until you fulfilled the conditions of the suspension. If someone told you otherwise, hopefully you got their name and contact info and they are willing to say that they told you that.

Sorry, but the fault is yours, not the DMV or the organization holding the classes.

What penalties you face depends on what specific offense you have been charged with. These are typically filed as infractions, but can be filed as misdemeanors. As infractions, the penalties will likely be in excess of $650.
