If You Apply for SSI, Must Your Roommates Complete Form SSI-8011

Hello,

If my name is on the lease along with other roommates, will they each have to fill out an SSI-8011 (verification of household expenses)? We split the electricity but I am on food stamps so I am in my own household by Food Stamp definition. I have not been able to find definition of "household" when there is rental liability for more than one person in one home, but they are not the same economic unit. We all have rental liability and I want to know if I have to have them fill out the form or if I will just receive the maximum benefit because I am liable for rent. I have been receiving SSI for 5 years, but previously lived with my parents so the 1/3rd reduction rate applied to me.

being liable for rent is not proof that you are paying your share of the rent and electricty. Yes, they do need to fill out the form.
