Post Adding a Second Middle Name for a Child

My question involves name change laws in the State of: South Carolina

My husband and I would like to add a second middle name to our four-year-old daughter's name. It's my husband's mother's maiden name - i.e., my daughter's grandmother's maiden name. Since my husband and I are also my daughter's parents and we both agree to add this second middle name, what process do we follow for having this legally done? Thanks for your help!

Check with the court in which you will be filing your petition. Many courts have packages of forms with instructions for such proceedings as a name change. I didn't see any official court forms online.

When reviewing a name change petition for a minor the courts perform a best interest analysis, set forth in Mazzone v. Miles, 532 SE 2d 890 (2000). I would not normally expect a problem convincing a court to authorize a name change where both parents agree. (Exceptions could arise, picking an extreme example of a poor name choice.)
