My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Michigan. We lived in house 1 year and lease stated 30 a month for water and sewer. Paid in full on time every month. Moved to a different house after lease expired (same land lord). New lease required us to pay 50 a month for water and sewer. Paid in full on time every month. One month water bill was 150 more than it should of been. Landlord wanted us to pay overage and we did. Next time water bill came out we owed 6.41 over what we where charged. So we paid it. That made me REALLY mad so i went to water dept. Looked up water bills for the 2.5 yrs at this house. We where over paying every month except the 2 months he charged us for the overage. So i went to him and asked how we where going to get to a zero balance since he owed us. Told us to take it off next months rent. So i did. Now he is trying to charge us from the FIRST lease that we under paid 2 1/2 yrs ago. Any help and advice would be helpful. If this is confusing i can try to re post question. Keep in mind we have lived in this guys houses for 3 1/2 yrs. Never payed late or made partial payments or had check bounce. I dont want to be a jerk. But to charge me for a 2 1/2 yr old bill makes me want to tell him some choice words and where to stick old bill.
Thanks for your time.
