Re: What is the Penalty of This Law (Mi 257.710f)
I was planning on stating that the belts on my tires were worn which is why it popped,
that just adds a charge of failing to maintain your vehicle on top of the driving without due care and caution. Ya see, especially since you knew the tires were worn out, you are required to drive even more carefully to avoid an accident. You didn't.
but that is not why your tires popped anyway. They popped because either it was cut when the tire compressed and the area pinched between the rim and the curb or hitting the curb broke the seal at the rim causing it to deflate instantly. Looking at the tire for a cut will tell you which it was. Having little to no tread does not appreciably alter the possibility of cutting the tire. It simply means you do not have as much traction.
according to this chart: http://courts.michigan.gov/scao/resources/other/fc_ci.pdf
a violation for bad tires is between $93 and $111.
I am not an attorney and any advice is not to be construed as legal advice. You might even want to ignore my advice. Actually, there are plenty of real attorneys that you might want to ignore as well.
