Default Deposition For an Accident I Didn't Witness

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: Washington

Ok so my girlfriend was in a car accident about four years ago. She has been going to court ever since. I have only know her for about 7 months now. The party fighting against her now wants to have me deposed. I did not witness the accident. I did not know her when she was in the accident. I met her three years after the accident occured. I have nothing to do with her case. I don't understand how and why they are deposing me. I am curious to know if there is a way that I can get out of the deposition? Do I have any rights in this matter?

Any information is helpful. Thank you.

I have no idea what they want you for, but if and when you show up, you give them the shortest and if all possible one word answers. I had an attorney my insurance company provided to accompany me, and that is what I was told to do. Nice and simple. In your case, if the insurance company provides an attorney, you might want to find out what the purposed of the deposition is.

Of course, I took a few hours off from work to attend to it.
