Question Friend caught shoplifting at Target in California

Hi everyone, i'm new here, but I have a question...

My friend was caught shoplifting at a Target in Southern California. He was stopped by security and (we think) a plainclothes LPO escorted him back to the security office. He had about $40 of merchandise on him. Police weren't called, but a report was taken by the LPO with his soc. security #, name, address, but no ID (didn't have it on him). He signed a paper stating what he had taken, and was released. He was advised that he would be recieving a letter/fine from Target, and that he was banned from the store. Nothing was mentioned about court or pressing charges.

My question is...do CA Targets always press charges or file reports to the police? Or are they different for certain situations? What can he expect? He's never gotten in trouble before and he's VERY nervous (as he should be) about it. I hope someone can offer advice.

    Thanx!

Whether or not Target will forward the information to the police depends upon their internal policies. The fact that they didn't contact the police makes it less likely that charges will be initiated, but only time will tell.

Unles they have APIS they wount notifiy the other stores, APIS IS ASSET PROTECTION INVESTIGATION SYSTEM, this lets other stores know if you have been stopped in an other store before, it has all your ID in the system.
including what you took and how much it was worth, I was a Loss Prevention Manager for 12 years, and still trying to get an other position
    take care

Im sorry I replied befor to a different question, the ansure for yours is every store has different guide lines for prosicution $ amount, if he was not issued a ticket at the time do not worry about it, but he should not do it again
if he got a ticket he will have to go to court, but if his record is clean he
    will be ok
