Since you have been on assistance most likely he will owe back child support to the state. There are several ways to establish paternity, either by signing an acknowledgement of paternity or by court order and that is the only way to have the birth certificate amended. Just because he wasn't involved in her life after she was born didn't prevent you from establishing him as the father, in fact usually you have to name a father when you get welfare. It is possible that he has already been made the father by default. You can check with you local court ot welfare department re establishing paternity.

The reason he wasn't on the birth certificate is when she was born I was a minor and my parnets told me that if I put his name on it then he would take my daughter away from me because he was of legal age.Do you have the site where we can get papers for volunatry acknowlegdement. Now that we are back together he is on my welfare case but is not listed as the father. Because it is not established yet. When we wasn't together he did help with raising her no we didn't have a child support case but he did give me money to help support her,and they will still make him pay back child support.. If he helped then I don't understand why it has to go through child support. If he is going to have to pay more child support then I don't think that he will sign it because that is not fair to him.

It's not fair to the state to pay to support your child and you also collect money from dad. You being a minor didn't prevent you from establishing paternity. Here is the number again.

Is it fair to us (the taxpayers) to have to pay for your child?
