    Default Defamation of Character

    Hi There,

My ex-wife went to the police dept. and told them I was running a drug operation so after 9 months of an investigation I was arrested and incarcerated for 85 days because of a probation violation.

I was found not guilty of the the said charges but I lost my job and my child support was 3 months behind.

These were all casued by my ex-wife. Also my name has been tainted by this and I can not find a job easily.

    Thanks JD

There are thousands of posts similar to yours so I have prepared a standard answer:

    Get a lawyer.

    Invest $20K and three years.

Sue the bad people for defamation.

If you win, expect them to keep doing it.

If you lose, expect them to keep doing it.

    Stand by for other opinions.

That boilerplate stuff isn't particularly helpful, at least as I see it.

Were you convicted of a probation violation, resulting in the 85 days incarceration? It would be odd to go 85 days without a hearing.

You're right. I should have said that making a false police report is not a basis for a defamation suit.

By the way, did you notice this forum is entitled:

Defamation, Slander & Libel Legal and practical issues involved in defamation and slander actions.

    Shouldn't that be:

Defamation, Slander & Libel Legal and practical issues involved in libel and slander actions.

    (Defamation includes libel and slander.)

It should have a better title. That doesn't have much to do with this thread, though....
