Default Moved in with a Friend for About a Week, Paid Her Rent, She Kept My Stuff When I Left

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio.

Back in August my mother kicked me out of her house and while I was at work my brother came to her house and shoved all of my belongings into my car. A friend of mine who happened to also be a coworker knew the situation and offered to let me stay with her. I took her up on the offer and when we left work we went to get my car that had all my belongings in it.. now there were valuables in the car two Xbox's.. and stuff to go with it so I didn't want to leave them in the car. I knew I wouldn't be staying with her long but I still paid her $50 in return for letting me stay there.

After a week had gone by I'd moved back into my mom's place. While I was staying with the friend the transmission in my car went out and it sat in her parking lot. She had no complaints about it. But she knew that without a vehicle I couldn't get to her whenever to get my stuff.

I felt awkward about going to her place to begin with there was always people there mostly her cousin, she knew me and her cousin didn't get along and she was supposed to let me know when her cousin wouldn't be around so I could come get my stuff. She never did. About a month went by and one night at work she had told me her cousin stole some of my stuff, some nail polish so I didn't think it was a big deal. And at this point she'd let a guy move in with her and I told her I wasn't barging in when someone I don't even know lives there so once again she told me she'd let me know and we agreed that she'd get my stuff back from her cousin and I'd just come get my stuff as a whole.

Now during all this her building was supposed to get remodeled. They ended up remodeling it and kicking her out they paid movers to come move her. She had the keys to my car at this time so she could load all my stuff into the car. She loaded just my clothes and kept everything else. I tried calling/texting her and she ignored me. Finally she responded saying she was going to bust my stuff in the street then when I didn't respond she said she was pawning it.

I let her be and had time to cool down. She gave me my car keys back at work the next night and I told her she never called so I could come get my stuff she said sorry and told me she'd call later. She never did. When I approached her again she said yea I'll text you when I get home. She never text me so I called only to be ignored yet again. Finally she responded to my text claiming the movers left the stuff in the apartment and she didn't have it.

I've since had her best friend at work tell me she has all my stuff and is keeping it on principle. Principle of what I don't know.

I've called the cops when it happened they did absolutely nothing. I've called lawyers and they are just telling me to call the cops.

Now with it being December has to much time passed to get my stuff? I've been trying so hard. My father died right before I moved in with her and the stuff she has is his stuff and I don't want to just let it go.

You can try suing in small claims court to recover the value of what she still has. Do you still have the texts from her? Any emails? You'll need to prove the value and that she has your belongings to get anywhere with a suit.

I still have the texts. And I'm pretty certain that I can come up with reciepts to the Xbox systems at least.
