Default Should You Hire a Lawyer to Apply for SSI

My question involves a person located in the state of: (you pick)

    Advice question..

Is it better to have a lawyer do the work filing for Disability (SSI) from day one... Or are the chances equal of getting everything you require if you file yourself with the backing of the medical industry?

I'd rather do it ourselves because (1) There are too many lawyers around my families life (wife and I) already... And (2) I'd rather not pay one with what I'm reading (from doctors) -- should be a slam dunk imo...

    What say the lawyers?

Or should I call Binder and Binder

Disability is never a slam dunk unless you're imminently terminal, catastrophically disabled or have an otherwise "slam dunk" condition.

The fact that you're here and typing would tend to suggest (though it's not a guarantee) that you're at least somewhat capable of functioning.

So don't bank on you being approved right away. The approval rates do vary somewhat by State (which - oh, it's you! Never mind ), but as a general guide around 2/3 of all applications will be denied initially.

Many attorneys won't even take a case until the first denial. So call around.

    Good to know.. Thank you...

B.t.w... It's not ME... (as is 75% of what I post about) that has the issues... (haha, some may object! :-p ) -- She's already been denied (now I find out? - ugh!) -- So lawyer up now?

    Thanks again..

    Anyone else?
