Default Getting a Ticket for Old Tabs

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: washington

i got pulled over because of a light not working on my licsence plates so the asked for the usual and it turns out that the regestration is expired. so he gave me a ticket. the car is regestered to my mom and dad. i also had only been driving it for about 2 months after being gone for the summer. the tabs expired in june. i was not around then so i had figured they had renewed it.

So my question is do i still get a ticket even though my name is not on the regestration and can not put new tabs on the vehicle?

Yes, it is the operators duty to ensure the vehicle they are operating is legally allowed to be on the road.

Well Kenny, the registration and tabs can be renewed on-line very quickly and inexpensively by your parents, who I am going to assume, still own the car. You get the ticket because you were driving the car that had the expired registration. If you own the car now, you need to get the title and registration transferred to you.

    Kenny,

Expired tabs is not a moving violation, and will not go on your record. That's the good news. For now, file the paperwork and request a contested hearing. File for discovery, and check and see whether or not the ticket was filed within 5 days pursuant to IRJL 2.2(d), whether or not the correct RCW statute is written, check and see if the officer signed the ticket, whether it is sworn in, etc.

Worst case scenario, pay the fee.
