Default Turned Over for Collection Even Though I Was Making Payments

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Oregon,I had open heart surgery in Dec,due to heart attack, without any medical insurance,we own a business that has been suffering for over 3 years now. Can't afford medical insurance. After all the doctor bills and add ons,I was set up with payment plan, while waiting to hear back from SS.I ended up having to appeal to SS and even sent proof into the hospital to let them know.August I received new notice on my payment plan and made the first new payment plan payment over the phone.Within 4 weeks the had turned it over for collections,I thought as long as you were trying to pay and making a payment every month total of 9 different checks I write,Supervisor decided with out even contacting me,didn't want to deal with the self pay anymore. How can Providence hospital turn me away for treatment, and turn me into collections when I am doing the best I can?Any insight to my problem would greatly be appreciate thank you so much for your time,Carla

I'm truly sorry, but the hospital is not obliged to treat you for free. They're a business, and they want their money.

Were you making the full payments per the repayment plan for the past four weeks?

,I thought as long as you were trying to pay and making a payment every month
You thought wrong. A creditor, unless otherwise agreed to, doesn't have to agree to any payment plan and can demand payment in full.

It does sound like you had made a new payment agreement. If you fulfilled the requirements, while they can turn it over to collections, they do not have the right to sue you. The collection agency would be bound by the same agreement you had with the hospital, if you did not breach it and as such, allow them to consider the agreement void.

maybe there is an internal function where the hospital simply does not deal with the payment plans such as yours and gives them to a collection agency to deal with.

As long as you are in compliance with your agreement and the CA does not sue you, there really is no difference as to whom you pay.

You may wish to leave the attitude at home.

You have no idea what I may or may not have experience with; but I'll enlighten you a little shall I? I nursed my late husband through months of CHF hell - without having insurance. You may also want to be a little less presumptive when you respond to people.

How did the supervisor not keep their word? Is the CA attempting to alter the agreement? Did you clue them in on the payment agreement and inform them of the fact you are current in your payments?

The hospital loses 40.000.00 by turning me over,I have a letter from the hospital agreeing with the terms, made one payment and then they turned me over with out any reason or call, that doesn't seem right when you are trying the best you can.We own our business and have had to sell everything to stay afloat.I was totally honest with all parties concerned, feel as thou I was betrayed and I was lied to.Not a good feeling,as when you keep your word the other party should. There is nothing for them to sue. They will need to accecpt the same payments, when you have no money, what are you to do?

You may want to leave the higher than thou attitude at the front door,I had just stated you have a snotty presumptive of people, don't bother enlighten me,tell it to some one whom really cares to listen to your holier than thou attitude

how did the hospital lose $40k?

and before you answer that, you have to know if the CA is actually a CA or a debt buyer. In either case, unless you know the price of the sale (for the debt buyer) or the cost of their services (for the CA) you cannot possibly know how much it cost the hospital to do what they did.

if you have an agreement and you have not breached it, the CA has to respect the agreement.

So, did anything actually happen other than the hospital has turned this over to a CA?
