Default Time Limitation for Establishing Paternity for Child Support

My question involves child support in the State of: Texas
I dated a woman for awhile 19 years ago. A child was born and she claimed it was mine. I offered to do a paternity test but she left only to reappear about 4 years ago with the boy claiming it was mine. She told me she just wanted me to meet him and have a relationship with him. I met him once and we have talked a few times. Now she has decided that I never helped out financially so she is threatening to go after me for back child support. No paternity has ever been established. He is almost 19 and has graduated from high school. There was never a court order for child support. Can she go after me for any kind of support at this late date?

There is no SOL to establish paternity in Texas.

However, Mom is sol (the "other" sol ) if she thinks she can get a court order for child support now, and she's certainly not going to get any back child support, since the TFC 154.001, 154.002 defines the age of emancipation as 18 years of age or when the child graduates high school whichever happens later.

So basically, it's too late for her to file anything at all. That ship has sailed.

    You're welcome!

Don't engage her. Ignore her txts, emails, calls - the whole gamut. If you want a relationship with your son, that's one thing - but you don't have to deal with her drama llama
