Exclamation What if I Don't Want to Be Representative Payee Any More

I Never wanted to be Representative payee and I told the SSI worker this.
but they Stuck me with it anyway. How do I get out of this?
The Father wants to be Rep payee. Not me. I don't want it and never did.
How can I stop being Rep payee? Does the whole process have to start over again or what?
Will my son have to get approved again or can Rep payee change hands quickly and smoothly
    without interruption of checks?

No one can make you remain payee if you don't want the responsibility. Call SSA. They will put the payments into suspense while they look for a replacement payee.

You are still responsible for accounting for the use of the benefits you did get and still could be liable if an overpayment was your fault.

    That sounds scary.
His Father can't just go in with him to the interview, say he wants to be and sign something?

    Thank You Janke.

His father can go with him. He can get informed about the requirements of being a payee and being on SSI. He can be informed about his possible liability for overpayments which happen to SSI recipients. It does not mean handing the money over to the 18 year old because then there is no point in having a payee.

SSA makes the decision, not your son, not his father. But parents are generally good candidates, most of them anyway.
