Default Seventeen, soon to be eighteen, living in Ohio
i am 17 years old, in october i will be 18. my boyfriend recently moved to the other side of the state. i would like to go move in with him soon after my 18th birthday, but i've heard from many people that i can't leave nless i've graduated. are my parents still legally responsible for me if i'm still in school, even if i'm 18?

Where are you working full-time and how long have you worked there?

Just so I understand, you want to move in with your boyfriend when you turn 18, and you want your parents to give you money after you move out of their home?

You seem to be confusing two different things - the age of majority, and the obligation of one parent to pay child support to another parent. At 18 in Ohio you're an adult and you can live where you want, but you have no right to a subsidy from your parents. If your parents aren't married and you're still in high school, a court could order child support to be paid to the custodial parent as long as you remain in that parent's custody and are enrolled full-time in high school.

i didn't mean are they still legally responsible in terms of money... my whole life they have been telling me that legally i can't move out until i'm 18 AND graduated... i was simply trying to find out if i would be allowed to leave once i'm 18, but before i'm out of school...

i have a telemarketing job working 31.5 hours a week and i've been there alittle over a month, but i plan on moving to the other side of the state, so when a move (if i do) i won't have a job until i find one there... i fully intend to enroll in the local school where i move to and still graduate...

i just need to know if my parents can take legal action against me once i turn 18, even if i haven't graduated

When you're 18, as you will be an adult under Ohio law, you can live where you please.
