The Laws For Taking In A Child

Hello,

I live in California, my sister lives in Kentucky. She is a drug adict and can no longer care for her 13 year old daughter. I am having her come and live with me. What do I need from the bio mom to have her here legally? Can I get this done through foster care? not sure.

Get an order from the Kentucky courts allowing you guardianship.

Are the courts or protective services already involved? If not, a voluntary grant of guardianship should be possible.

You are correct.

My concern, however, was that the father of the child is not mentioned, the mom was called a drug addict, and the kid is going across the country.

If the poster were my client, I would settle for nothing less than a court order allowing the poster to take the kid.

But I am a belt and suspenders kind of guy....
