How Do I Get an Extended House Guest Out of My House

My question involves an eviction in the state of: CALIFORNIA
we have my girlfriends father living with us because he lost his apartment. he has been here for about 3 years never paid us anything towards rent until just recently. to day I suggested that please cut down on the amount of coffee he makes per day,and he became irate, loud and very verbal abusive. at one point he tried to hit me with the empty coffee pot. words were then exchanged and i informed him that he has to go. he proceeded to tell me that he won't go that I would have to evict him. he presented hos rage in front of my children and i don't feel for there safety in the house any longer. from what ive been told by numerous people that its going to be very difficult to remove him from the property...not that he is not on the rental agreement....any help would greatly be appreciated thank you!
