Leased Car Towed Due to Parking Tickets, but Now Can't Find Car

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: PA

I leased a car from GM. due to non payment of tickets in NY, nypd towed in Jan. 2011.

went to finance office and realized I couldn't afford tickets, so I called finance company and told them to go get it. Since it was a leased vehicle, I made them aware of where it was. of course, i didn't take a name but the man said they (GM) would go get it.

In June a collector called looking for it. When I told them the situation, they didn't believe me and said they would throw my in jail for theft. So I called 311 in NY and the they have no record of the PLATE being towed....but they DID tow it.

The collectors are still calling and the NYPD can't tell me what happened to this car. I was thinking about doing a VIN check since they probably sold in a police auction but not sure how to do this.

Am I going to jail? There are so many people on this forum who need help. I feel bad but glad I'm not alone.

You know the car was towed by the police because of what? You watched a police tow truck hook up the vehicle and tow it away?

If your car is gone, you have no personal knowledge of where it went, the police have no record of towing it, and you have never been contacted about a private tow or impound, has it occurred to you that you might report the car stolen?
