My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: Ohio
I received a speeding ticket in Ohio for 82/65. I was give a ticket with an arraignment date of 7/6/11. After talking to the court, they said that I could fax them a not guilty plea, which I did. They received it, and according to their website I plead not guilty on 7/5/11. I did not sign a wiaver of time letter.
About an hour ago (11:00AM on 7/18/11), I received a message on my cell phone from someone at the court, telling me that if I didn't sign a waiver of time letter that they were going to set my court date for tomorrow, 7/19/11 at 10:30 AM.
I have two questions. First of all, is this legal. I thought that if I had a court date I had to receive a summons showing me the date.
Second, what will happen if I don't show up tomorrow. This court is 70 miles from my house. It sounds like they are trying to pressure me to sign a waiver of time letter to give them more time. Sorry for the short time frame, but any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
