Wolpoff and Abramason Lawsuit Over Credit Card Debt

Please help,,,, I recieved a petition on Sat,a guy just knocked on the door and handed it to me when i read it, its stating that this petition was filed in june o6 for a credit card back in 03 the amount is for 3300.00 one i dont belive the limit was over 2000 but regardless thats what im being told to pay. i have since gone thru a divorce and many issues and just didnt have the money to pay this. I live in Texas and im tring to find a way to pay this without killing myself being a single parent. I called the atty they wont budge on the amount and expects me to pay 250.00 a month. Ive contact my credit union at work but my thing is i have read so many bad things about the collection agency and the law firm how do i know it will be taken care of and settled in the correct manor. i dont want to be taken for the money i dont have and still have this petition/law suit hanging over me. what are the correct steps to take.

the law firm is Wolpoff & Abramson

Texas doesn't permit wage garnishments, and I'm not sure what other assets they can go after. If you owe the money, they have every right to try to collect it and to try to get a judgment reflecting the debt you owe.
