Can I Hire a Us Lawyer for Danish Car Accident Case

My Father was a British/ New Zealand citizen who was killed in a car accident in Denmark last year. I am his daughter and a US citizen. I hired a Danish lawyer to try and get travel, funeral, and pain and suffering compensation from the driver. After a year of back and forth the Danish lawyer is now telling me that I can not get any compensation because I am over 18. Is this true? Can I hire a US lawyer to help me in an international car accident case?

A US lawyer probably will not be able to do anything other than to consult with a Danish lawyer. I'm not familiar with danish law but you'd not get pain and suffering as an third party here either.
