My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Missouri. I live in St. Louis and I have a lot of credit card debt. I was behind in payments and the original creditor sold my debt to another company about a year ago. I was contacted by the lawyers of the new creditor about making payment arrangements. I worked out a settlement and have been making monthly payments for over a year now. Today I got a letter from the lawyer's office asking for the full payment and if I can't pay it all off then I need to call them to make payment arrangements. I don't know what to do I've been making payments every month for over a year. I've never missed a payment. I don't have the money to make the full payment and I can't afford higher payments. I just don't understand why they sent me this letter I already made payment arrangements and have been paying it on time every month. I would like some advice as to what my options are. I don't know if I can just ignore this letter and keep making payments as per the original agreement or if I need to call them to discuss my options.
