Default Being Sued for Old Credit Card Debt
Good morning!

On Thursday of last week, I was served a summons stating that I am being sued for an old credit card debt (about 2 years old) in the amount of $634.00. I do not dispute the debt, as it is valid, and I am willing to pay the full amount to avoid going to court. They are also seeking legal fees, interest and court costs on top of the original debt amount. Do you have any idea how much (on average) such charges can amount to?

Will I definitely end up in court, or if I call the plaintiff's attorneys, can we settle this without going before a judge? Is it too late for that?

I have the money to pay the original debt in full, but not much more. I am the father of two with a wife who doesn't work, and we are on a tight budget. I just want to be as well-informed as possible before calling the law firm that filed the suit against me. I'm tired of not sleeping at night thinking about this! Any information you could provide would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you!!

If they have a legitimate claim to attorney fees, in a litigated case those fees can often exceed the amount of the underlying debt.

If you are not represented, you can call the lawyer to see what they will accept by way of settlement. If you are represented, they will want to be contacted by your lawyer. (However, it seems from your comments that you are not represented.)
